Graphic Design

Graphic Design is an older term for the field of Visual Design. This term refers specifically to the use of graphic media (such as color, symbol, and type) to communicate a style or expression.

As a Graphic designer we have a unique ability to sell a product or idea through effective visual communications. It is applied to products as well as elements of company identity like logos, colors, and text, together defined as branding. Branding has increasingly become important in the range of services offered by many graphic designers, alongside corporate identity and the terms are often used interchangeably.

The Brochure is a paper advertisement that customarily advertise products or services and include company information such as location. Since a brochure may be the first touchpoint a client/customer has with the company it is important for a brochure to be professionally designed.

Corporate Identity

Why is it so important?

In the marketing world, the corporate identity (or short CI) is the "personality" of a given company which is designed to represent the company to the outside world and to help to achieve business objectives. It is presented to the public by all means of branding and the use of trademarks.

Corporate Identity is often viewed as being composed of three parts:

  1. Corporate Design (logos, website, stationery, uniforms, etc.)
  2. Corporate Communication (commercials, public relations, information, etc.)
  3. Corporate Behavior (internal values, norms, etc.)

Corporate identity is the technique to develop a particular look which is then applied to a logo, website, corporate folders, billboards, etc. within a set of style guides. These guidelines describe how the identity is applied and conforms to colors, typefaces, layouts and other methods of maintaining visual continuity and recognition of the brand.

Many companies, have their own identity run through all of their products, merchandise and services. The logo appears consistently throughout the packaging and advertisements. Companies hire the best firms and strive for an identity that is extremely distinguishable, so it can appeal more to its targeted audience.
